GMS Orchestra Grading Policy
Participation (30 %)
This grade is based on bringing materials to class and participating. Students start off each week with a grade of 100 and lose points for not bringing materials or not participating. If the student brings all materials and participates in class, the grade remains a 100. No Instrument in class or leaving instrument at school (-10 points), No Binder/Book (-8 points), No Shoulderpad/ Rockstop
(-5 points), No Pencil (-2 points), No Rosin or Cloth (-2 each), dishonesty (-20 points).
Practice Record (10%)
Students should practice daily and turn in the practice record on the first day of the week. For each week the student turns in the practice record on time, signed on the correct form, and with 100 or more minutes of practice, their grade will be 100. Fewer than 100 minutes, will mean the grade is the number of minutes practiced that week. No practice will be accepted after the last day of the week on which it was due. Practice must be submitted on the appropriate form and be spread out over more than two days for full credit. If you are absent on the first day of the week, turn in your practice record the first day you return to orchestra with a note on it that you were absent and you will receive full credit.
Pass-Off Tests & Performances (60%)
Students’ performance grade will be based on the number of “pass-offs” they have completed correctly at the end of the grading period. Students get credit only when work is done or performed correctly. Students will be allowed multiple tries on each assignment. Any student who is absent from school on a pass-off day, may pass-off on their first day back at the end of their class period. It is the student’s responsibility to ask to make-up work. Mrs. Goldie is always available for retests after school as well by appointment. Concert attendance and dress will weigh heavily in this category. Unexcused absences from performances cannot be made-up.
