Jonesboro Wrestling Team Expectations

Academics: Wrestlers will be expected to maintain grades that keep them eligible and will go to tutoring if instructed by a coach to do so. Homework, projects, etc… are not an excuse to miss practices or meets. Students know ahead of time when assignments are due and are expected as student athletes to prioritize their personal time to get all assignments done in order to make all practices and matches.

Behavior: Students on the Jonesboro High School Wrestling Team must keep in mind that they are in the public eye at all times. Their conduct, on and off the mat, is always under scrutiny of fellow teammates, fellow students, teachers, administrators, parents, guardians, opponents, and the media. Student athletes have a responsibility to serve as positive role models and representatives of Jonesboro High School. In order to succeed in that role a student athlete should:

1. Show respect for authority, property, and peers at all times.

2. Maintain academic eligibility throughout the season.

3. Follow all team rules

4. Practice the ideals of sportsmanship, team loyalty and fair play.

Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Punishment for inappropriate will range from extra exercise to removal from the team.

Attendance: Tardiness: Practice begins promptly at 3:30 pm. You must be dressed and in the weightroom  ready for practice by 3:29 pm. 3 tardies in one week will result in that team member sitting out one match. 2 missed matches due to tardiness will result in dismissal from the team.

Absences: 2 absences from practice in one week will result in that team member sitting out one match. 2 missed matches due to absence will result in dismissal from the team.  Excused absences are 1.Death of a family member. 2. Doctor’s appointment, 3.Verified illness.

ISS/OSS: ISS/OSS will result in a missed meet. 2 missed meets due to ISS/OSS will result in dismissal from the team.

Fundraisers: All team members are expected to participate in any fundraising activities conducted by JHS Wrestling. NO EXCUSES. Missed fundraisers will count as an absence.

Uniforms: All uniforms and equipment issued by Jonesboro High School Wrestling are property of Jonesboro High School and must be returned upon the end of the season or when a wrestler is dismissed from the team. Failure to return equipment will result in a financial obligation for the wrestler in addition to a ban from participating in any other sport or extracurricular activity at Jonesboro High School until the uniform/equipment is returned or paid for.

Pick Up: All students must be picked up 15 minutes after the end of practice/matches. Students who are chronically picked up late will be dismissed from the program. We reserve the right to notify the police if a child has to wait longer than 30 minutes. They will issue you a citation. We hope it doesn’t have to come to that, but the coaches have families too.
